National Mourning Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.

The organizers of this observation are constantly reminded of the devastation and suffering of the Native American people on Thanksgiving Day. Since 1970, participants in National Mourning Day have honored locals and their struggles for survival today. Educating Americans about Thanksgiving history is part of the mission behind this program.

Organized by the Indians of the United States of New England (UAE) during the Native American activism, this march revised the image and history of the United States and restored relations with the Native American people and praised their culture.

Since 1970, the New England Indians Annual March and Rally of the United States took place on the fourth Thursday of November, the same day as Thanksgiving. They respect the natives by educating the American people. Although the incident coincided with a similar protest, the two incidents were not associated with the West Coast, Thanksgiving Day.
