 What’s Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day (or Saint Valentine’s Day) is observed on February 14 every year.  Now Valentine’s Day is celebrated in several countries around the world, largely from the West, though it remains a working day at all of them.  The first”St. Valentine” was a liturgical celebration of one or more ancient Christian warrior called Valentinus.  Each of the contemporary romantic connotations was inserted a few centuries afterward by poets.

The afternoon became associated with romantic love from the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the Middle Ages, once the tradition of courtly love flourished.  From the 15th century, it had become an event in which supporters voiced their love for each other by introducing flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards.

Modern Valentine’s Day symbols incorporate the heart-shaped outline, doves, and also the figure of the winged Cupid.
