Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third
Saturday of May. President Harry S. Thanks to Truman, today is a special
tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces. President Truman spearheaded
the effort to organize a holiday to unite citizens in support of the United
States and honor our military veterans for their patriotic service.

Armed Forces Day is a joint celebration of
all six branches of the US Army: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps,
Navy and newly created space force. All those currently serving in the US Armed
Forces will be honored today. This includes men and women who have served or
have served in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force and Coast
Guard, including the National Guard and Reserve.

has been declared a national holiday. It is celebrated on the third Saturday of
every May and is presented through exercises, parades and receptions that
highlight and honor our wonderful army and its full strength.
